Flooring Technology

Liquid Lava Floor Tiles...

These floor tiles are resilient modular tiles containing liquid inside. When pressure is applied the liquid literally swirls around your feet. They are made up of two sheets of polycarbonate. The top is an anti-slip surface and the lower is shockproof. They become one single piece when sealed with rigid polycarbonate. These are also available as tables, counter tops, and different backlit surfaces.

This + That= WOW!...

This company also allows architects and interior designers to create their own custom installations by combining different products to create a one of a kind surface.  Above are two examples of custom installations.

Convertible Furniture

Bookcase Into a Bed...
A mattress stands upright in four bits and forms the bulk of the bookcase. These surrond five storage shelves which are suspended in mid-air by a wall mounted frame. The mattress sections are placed on the floor and slot together to form the bed. (Can make a single or double bed.)

Bed Up
This is a french design that is made to create multi-functional spaces. It is stored on the ceiling and drops down to fit overtop of the living space. It's then suspended down and planks also hold up the bottom.

Technologies in Interior Design

Green Walls...

If you really want to bring nature into your interior, a green wall or living wall is perhaps the best way. They have an abundance of green and help purify the air in the environment.

3D Wall Tiles...
While most wallpapers stick to two dimensions, these wall panels are three dimensional. The panels are light weight and made out of recycled paper. The add texture to the walls and can be arranged in a number of different ways (creating a unique pattern).

"Touch me" Wallpaper...
Zane Berzina created a wallpaper that is impregnated with thermochromic ink, which changes color in response to body heat. The patterns remain on the paper until it returns to room temperature.

The Stromer...
This is an interactive LED wall which turns shadow into light. As pedestrians walk by the wall, a camera catches their silhouette and displays the same shape as light on the wall. Because the wall is motion activated, it remains dark until someone walks by (leaving the area dark when no one is around). It saves energy because of this feature.

The Audience Defined

I feel that the audience for our R-Zine is the college age group. They are up and coming artists looking for the latest news in their fields. There are many new technologies that have recently been discovered. There should be some sort of way to bring these to the young artists and share new ideas about what's being created.

Theme Idea

My idea for the theme is to take every major at Ringling and pick out what's going on that is important in the field. For example, it could be a new project that was completed, a new material, and up and coming artist, or a new technology. Each section should contain each element.

My major is interior design and I have talked to some of the girls. They would like to hear about different products, new technologies in design, and sustainable design.
